Project TitleThe Anatomy of Risk. Dysconnectivity in relation to risk for psychosis: a population-based imaging study
Project DescriptionThe “Adolescent Brain Development Study” (ABD1) commenced recruitment in 2008. Briefly, parents of 700 children from 5th and 6th classes (the two most senior classes) in 16 large primary schools in north and west Dublin and Kildare were contacted about taking part in our study and ultimately 212 (32%) agreed to attend with their child for detailed clinical interview and neuropsychological testing. On interview 55% of the cohort reported no psychotic symptoms, 22% reported “weak” psychotic symptoms and 23% reported “strong” psychotic symptoms. The follow-up study will span 3 years – until the youngest participants (ie those who were 11 years old on testing in 2010, are 14 years of age. This testing intervals will span transition from primary to secondary school. Methods: The detailed follow-up protocol will comprise a repeat interview as well as the following multimodal magnetic resonance imaging protocol:: Resting state-functional connectivity magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fcMRI). High Resolution Anatomy Imaging and analyses Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI) design and analyses Data analysis and preprocessing will be performed using ExploreDTI software (http://www.exploredti.com/) with motion/distortion correction including B-matrix rotation (Leemans et al., 2009) featured as part of the preprocessing analysis steps.
