Cardiovascular Infection Research Group Page

The Cardiovascular Infection Research Group focuses on;

1. Investigating the role of the endothelium in the progression of severe bloodstream
infection / sepsis

2. Developing 3D models to study cardiovascular infection caused by Gram positive and
Gram negative bacteria

3. Devising novel formulations to treat recurrence and persistence of infection using 3D and
in vivo models of infection

4. Visualization host cell interactions follwoing infection in real time using 2-photon and
epifluorescent microscopy (Bacterial binding, thrombus formation, NET formation)

5. Investigating the role of platelets as primitive immune cells in inflammation and innate
immunity
